The Mer Maiden

The Mer Maiden, she is a stunning and super rare 1970s Gunne Sax calico cotton maxi length sundress.

The Mer Maiden, she is a truly dark wonder. She has the most amazing maiden style cut with velvet bodice, corset feature, tiered skirt, floral print and contrasting ribbon details. This dress is an extremely rare beauty, and this one has fetched $1000 in the USA. She is one of those Holy Grail coveted Gunnies which lots of collectors search for. This is truly a rare opportunity to snap her up at a fair price, her tags are still intact.

This girl measures to approx UK size 6/8 small 10.

Bust - 33" - 34" with her corset tied tight, could be loosened.

Empire Waist - 27" - 28"

Length -  58.5"

For reference our mannequin, Norma, measures to a UK 6.

The Mer Maiden has been freshly laundered and is ready to wear. She can safely be washed at home on a 30 degree setting. She is in good wearable vintage condition, but she does have some flaws to be noted. Her side ties are missing, but she has been sewn up where they have been removed and it is unnoticeable that they were ever there. Both shoulder straps have been repaired by being sewn up at the highest point of the shoulder and she has a sewn up tear to the bottom tier of her skirt, with her skirt being so full. this is really not noticeable on the outside when worn. For some reason most Gunne Sax dresses come with flaws. This beauty may have some to note, but she is still a dream dress and fully wearable. See last four photos for more.

This beauty has minimal signs of vintage wear, but please bear in mind that our pieces are true vintage, they’ve been danced in and they have been lived in, so all of our garments will carry your usual signs of vintage wear. Anything that we think is outside of what would class as usual vintage wear, we will state.

Here at Pansy we know vintage sizes are very different from modern sizes, and we pride ourselves on offering accurate measurements with approximate modern UK sizing to ensure a your Pansy purchases will be a good fit.
Although we do offer approx modern sizing it is also very helpful if you know your own measurements. If you are unsure of these, an easy way of estimating them is measuring one of your own garments, that fits well, laid flat. Measure in inches, across from pit to pit, flat across the waist and double both of these measurements.  Our length measurements are mostly taken from the highest point of the shoulder to the hem.
